About Last weekend

This was a busy week:
Thursday and Friday: Home Based Travel Agent Show.
Saturday: Vegas cvb at the Atlanta Steeplechase.

This was the first Travel Technology forum for the travel industry, so I had to make this one. I was pretty impressed to say the least. Some of the topics included hardware, processing (credit cards) and database software. I thought most of the agents would use a supplier, but with those I talked to, were in in the industry 12 plus years and well established used their own bank, processor, and dealt directly with suppliers.

Another forum the next day was Weddings & Romantic Getaways. This was headed up by some online suppliers specializing in weddings services (not locations).

There was a another forum dealing with Spa & Golf Getaways, but did not have the time to make it.

Saturday was tough after about 4 hours sleep I picked up a travel friend and headed out to Rome Georgia for the Atlanta Steeplechase. This was a blast ! I couldn’t believe all the tents and spectators. There must have been 30 companies there. I was a guest of The Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority. Marla & Glenda did a great job .. Thanks for having me.

I was really impressed how the Steeplechase has grown. I took some pics and added a Flickr Group.

Still using Brian´s Revolution Theme. The big change is the header, added an image from Occidental Grand in Cozumel and changed the background color to a greenish blue, something easy on the eyes. Also added a Event Calendar plugin to follow up-coming events.

The original design and back bone comes from Brian Gardner´s Revolution template theme. I picked this design and layout because it is w3c compliant, the design is ahead of it’s time and I want to know more about how WordPress works under the hood. Yes I could create this design myself, but I cut the design time to a 10th, and I want to learn more about WordPress.

Some of the changes to site:

• September 23, 2007 Added random images to the front page using php and css. There are only 3 images now, but it will be easy to add more.
• The Revolution theme was loaded in Late August 2007.

Week in review

Just came back from the first part of the Bausch & Lomb Tennis championships on Amelia Island. I must have taken close to 500 pics. Most of those are multiple shots per second of serves. Also started a Flickr Group for Bausch & Lomb to post some of those.

I saw Venus Williams for the first night game and during the day I sat in for a match with Petrova seated #1, on the last day I was there.

When you come early to a large tournament it’s easy to move around between matches. And everyone was pretty good about waiting until players changed sides.

Hotspots
Found 2 free wifi hotspots on Amelia Island; Seattle’s Best on Centre Street is a big gathering spot for locals before the day begins. And Latitude’s, out in Yulee by Home Depot, I usually hit this coffee shop early in the am when leaving to head home.

Social Sites
I’ve started adding my sites to some social communities and social bookmarks and in a very short time starting to see a good increase in viewers.

Added a little Flickr widget on to the lower right column.

It looks like most of this coming week I’ll be loading pics up to Flickr.
